The Beauty in Breaking

I broke a nail. That’s a big deal for me because it took years for me to grow them out naturally, and I just started dipping them to maintain their strength and length. It split right across the middle and blood came up through the center. It hurt terribly, but I didn’t want to cut it down and make it look ugly. I waited till the blood dried and threw super glue on it. But then I kept hitting it and it kept breaking. It kept bleeding. It kept hurting. This happened several times before I just took the clippers and cut it down.
Now it doesn’t hurt. Now it can heal. Now it can grow without further damage.
This reminds me of so many people I cross paths with in life. You cannot just keep throwing temporary fixes on your internal wounds to keep the ugly from surfacing or the pain from bleeding out. Sometimes life’s got to get a little ugly before the hurt can stop and you can really heal. You may think you can mask it with different coping methods- but you’re going to continually run into situations that will cause the pain to surface worse and worse until you finally get to the point where you are ready to cut the crap, let go of it without caring what that looks like to others, and do what it takes to heal and grow!
